Good Evening Folks!
In case you were wondering....Yes, Boston is, indeed, a winter wonderland...STILL. And apparently, there is more snow on the way. All of the news channels have been claiming that this was the worst storm since 1978, and I believe 'em! There are MANY snow piles that are taller than I am and because it is all very dry snow, it isn't flooding our streets -- we simply have aisles of piles of snow all over the state! Today was the first day in 2 weeks that our temperature hit above freezing. Funny thing is, I'm completely adjusted to the cold weather and have come to enjoy it (I know that most of you were surprised that I got through last winter considering I am a California girl at heart). ;-)
I have been soooo busy. Many of you have been messaging me, calling me, and emailing me without any answer from me. First of all, I'm sorry! I took on a LOT this semester -- TEN classes, 3 outside recording projects, and I'm still supposed to start gigging around Boston in the next few months. One of my original songs, "Fire Park," is being used for a "Live to Two" project, which is one of the many assignments the MP&E students (Music Production & Engineering Majors) are given. I was lucky because MP&E students are always looking for material to record. "Live to Two" essentially means it must be recorded the old fashioned way to only two tracks (vocals on one track and all of the instruments on another). It may not sound that daunting, but this means that our recording has to be done in one take, all at once. If you're not familiar with today's recording techniques, I guess I should explain what this means: 1. We cannot go back and edit anything that we record because it's not a digital recording, and 2. We cannot stop at any point during the song - it has to be perfect from start to finish. Normally, if there is a spot where we'd like to redo a verse or chorus, we could go back and re-record small sections separately....cut and paste with no problem at all, but not here! Although we've only had 2 rehearsals, I am really confident that this project is going to turn out well. I've now experienced what it feels like to have a full band play MY song -- it's one of the BEST feelings in the entire world. I couldn't believe it. It's a rock song with a taste of folk -- let's hope it's enough to keep me wired this coming Friday night/Saturday morning during our recording session from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the Berklee studios. Oy!
Health wise, I haven't been feeling this well in years! I finally understand what my parents have been telling me throughout my entire life -- moderation really is the key to everything. Thank you, Mom & Dad. Life just keeps getting better and I attribute it to the fact that I exercise regularly, balance my diet with mostly natural foods, and stay in touch with my spiritual self (and a daily dose of chocolate, of course!). It's an energizing lifestyle -- I highly recommend it! Now, all I need to do is figure out a way for my cat, Neenoo to let me sleep. I could swear that he has "kitty ADD" - no joke. At first, I appreciated it because he acted more like a dog than a cat, but now he craves attention when I'm trying to sleep. He jumps onto my shelves and desk and shoves things onto the floor until I wake up, and physically get out of bed (completely) to stop him. Ugh. Gosh darn, though...I sure love him...but HELP!!!!
Well, more news soon. Hope you're all doing very well. Take care....
