A look into my life, my thoughts and beliefs, and anything else that comes up. You will be able to follow along the path leading into my future -- whatever that might be...

I wish I were better at posting on this thing. I find that I simply cannot promise to keep it updated. It's kind of like never allowing myself to claim, "I'm completely healed" when it comes to my history with eating disorders and body image issues. I set myself up for failure. I'm gonna to TRY to update more often, but I'm certainly not promising. Lots has been going on, and if anyone even reads this anymore, ya' might wanna hear about it. Have a grand day, all....

So...

It was break time during my LSAT class tonight when I decided to walk across the street and get myself a nice, warm soy chai latte at Starbucks. I usually cringe when I think about how much money one ends up spending on these sorta things by the end of the year (which makes me happy that I don't do it all that often).

Annnnnnnyhoodle, tonight, it was worth the price. For one, the latte warmed me up during the next portion of the FOUR HOUR-long class, and two, it left me with an interesting quotation. I guess they print random quotes from Starbucks customers on their cups now???? So, here ya' go:

The Way I See It #76

"The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating - in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life." ~ Anne Morriss ~

Alright, now, despite what all you naysayers may say, I believe there are no coincidences... Especially since they gave me a grande instead of the tall that I'd ordered. I was supposed to get that wisdom #76! ;-)

Anyway, if nothing else, it's an interesting perspective, no?

All that aside, I must make a side note to this note. I have to admit that I much prefer Coffee Bean to Starbucks, so if I'm gonna give my left arm, it'll usually go to CB, and it's for one of those blueberry pomegranate soy tea lattes! Now, you may notice that this could imply that I have multiple left arms... and you'd be right... because I do.

(Psst... please don't panic, I'm just joking)

Did you note the boldness of the word "usually?" I think the LSAT is finally getting to me. I've inserted LSAT methodology into my blog... i.e. the word "usually" implies sometimes, but not always... which COULD mean only a couple times depending on how often I go to CB.... or... every time but this once.... or a majority of the time... which is at least more than half.... uuuugh.... No more logical reasoning. Time for bed.

So, you're all probably wondering why I haven't been keeping my promise in writing a blog... Well, I'm not exactly able to divulge any information. This campaign is far too important for me to release any information that might be used against us in any way, and as it goes, press will use whatever they can get their hands on in order to break a story.

All volunteers, interns, and organizers are not to post specific information from now until we elect Barack. So, with that said, I'll simply say that we're working incredibly hard (to put it mildly), I'm exhausted but remain seriously fired up and ready to go! and I can't wait for the next and final presidential debate taking place this coming Wednesday, October 15, 2008 9PM ET/6PM PT. Be sure to tune in... Sorry I cannot write more, guys... I promise to make up for it after the election.

Are you all registered and ready to vote? Most states' deadlines to register have either passed or are right around the corner! In Nevada, for instance, this coming Tuesday, Oct. 14th is the last day people can register in person at a county registrar office. Deadlines are a bit different in other states, so be sure to go to VoteForChange.com for more information on your state and the voting process, early voting and poll locations nearest to you.

OFF TO NEVADA: Battleground America

Friends, family, colleagues, RRW™ ALLIES and ADversaries™ --

My time of service has come. I will be shipping off to report to duty tomorrow morning... to... Las Vegas. I know, you may be experiencing some elements of skepticism and disbelief that I could actually be "working" in Vegas for as many as 6 weeks, but I am here to reassure you that it is ALL business.

Between tomorrow, September 23, 2008 and November 4, 2008, I will be interning with the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign as a Deputy Field Organizer (but if you're Palin, organizers have no "actual responsibilities," do they? YES WE DO!)! After attending Camp Obama in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, I decided that this is the chance of a lifetime to be part of such a huge and significant movement - to be a part of history. Our country is in such need for change that we cannot afford to have 4 or potentially 8 more years of corruption and mismanagement.

The strategic and deceptive game of our opponents is one that they've been perfecting for years, and we cannot afford to sit back and do nothing. I could have backed away or offered to spend less time in the battleground state, but I know the stakes are high and that this will be a way for me to serve my fellow citizens. The rest of the world is waiting for us to finally make this right, and as an avid activist for women, the prospect of Gov. Sarah Palin getting anywhere near the Supreme Court absolutely terrifies me.

Ask yourself this: Where might this country be 3 or 4 years from now if we allow John McCain to win the presidency? If the prospect scares you, as it probably should, recognize the importance of this historic moment and DO YOUR PART. This election is entirely too important for anyone to not get involved in some capacity.

I fully expect to work until I'm exhausted (both mentally and physically) and some days, to feel a little discouraged. The important thing to remember is that when we are confronted by the opposition of those whose beliefs differ from our own, we must remain positive and focused. We mustn't concentrate on our differences so much that we forget the commonalities of our humanity and hope for a better future.

All in all, I hope to gain a better understanding of what it takes to keep the heartbeats of our neighborhoods going strong. The true irony in all of this will be the day we defeat John McCain doing the very thing they have mocked us for celebrating: our ability to organize ourselves for the sake of the greater good.

Stay tuned...

YOU will NEVER Break the Glass Ceiling, PALIN. And Fear Mongering JUST WON'T WORK THIS TIME.

John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his VP running mate should be considered an insult to every woman everywhere. Pandering to the Clinton vote, eh? Just because she is a (self-betraying) woman, you must think we're dumb enough to frolic along your trail, hop onto your antiquated bandwagon, and rejoice that we have a woman on the ticket! YES!

Um. No. HELL NO.

Tonight was the first time I was actually brought to tears out of sheer frustration and anger at the lies and low-class attacks from the Republican side. I could not believe what I was witnessing! One after the other, neo-cons climbed up onto the stage and preached hate, absolute lies (which will luckily come back to get them), and one huge myth -- that women will somehow benefit from this or that equality will prevail with her in office. Let's correct that, "my friends" (as Johnny likes to say). SARAH PALIN WILL NEVER BREAK THE GLASS CEILING, which has limited women's equality and place in American society. Her speech was not only immature and juvenile, but it reminded people of just how much classier of a leader Hillary Clinton is. Good luck getting her votes, McCain. For the most part, I have been a supporter of Barack Obama all along (with an exception to the beginning when I was first learning about the candidates), however, it's impossible not to notice the stark difference between Hillary and Palin.

A woman who met the Republican candidate ONCE before his decision to put her on the ticket should not have been selected. A woman who "hasn't given much thought" to foreign affairs has no place as Vice President. A woman who JUST applied for her very first passport LAST YEAR -- YES -- 2007 -- will be more like a first grader in a college economics class. Let's not forget that she is a Creationist and believes that Creationism should be taught in public schools. Or that she's "skeptical" of man's influence on global warming -- or that it even exists for that matter. Let's not forget that she flaunts her family like they're the new McDonalds logo and then her supporters snap back when something is mentioned of this. Let's not forget that she believes that EVEN a woman who was a victim of rape or incest should not be allowed to make her OWN decisions about pregnancy. Let's not forget that she was fed the words she spoke and that the snide, disgusting, middle-school valley girl's tone she used to PERSONALLY attack her opponents was a direct indication of what the entire conservative campaign has been running. It is their MO.

Mitt Romney, RUDY Giuliani (which is more of a commentary on his character than his actual name) and Mike Huckabee told outward lies. Hold on, kids. This is gonna get even more interesting.

Supporters of Palin are angrily arguing that everyone should back off from speaking of her 17 year old daughters pregnancy, and that it isn't anyone's business, especially the government's... that we should stay out of their private lives.

REALLY? Hm. Well, the last time I checked, your party abandoned your right to claim it's the party that stays out of your home and bedroom LONG AGO. You tell people who they should and shouldn't love. You want to control what decisions a woman makes about her own body. How is that not personal, dear Republicans? It's called BIG GOVERNMENT. Big Brother. You know - the very thing you claim you're against?

Finally, your claim that the media and the Democratic party is being sexist towards Palin. Now THAT claim is beyond deplorable. Democrats fully embrace women's rights. The Democratic party supports strong women like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama. Our opponents, arch-right conservatives have argued that these women are "too aggressive." This is a stigma that hurts women all across our country. In the workplace. In our households. In our schools. In our media.

Let's talk about being sexist for just one minute. When a woman gets paid a fraction of what men get paid for doing the same work, that's sexist. When a woman stands up and speaks her mind eloquently and confidently, they are emotional, aggressive, cold, negative and sadly enough, many times are deemed as a "bitch". When a man does it, he's wise and a strong leader. Why is it acceptable for people to attack Hillary Clinton for having "fat ankles," but we leave McCain alone for his comb-over hairdo? And though I will not say this is exclusive to any one region, I will say that being a woman means something different in the working world in places like the bible belt. I know. I did it.

Hillary is a classy, respectful, outspoken female leader. You. Well, ahem...

Dearest Palin, faux-feminist, let us begin this discussion on sexism.

If there's going to be a woman who will break that glass ceiling, it sure as hell will never be you.
